The Whyte Island boat ramp upgrade is part of this commitment, supporting local industry and the broader bayside community, the project will enhance marine safety, improve recreational boating opportunities and contribute to local tourism and economic activity.
Maritime Safety Queensland is leading delivery of the project to ensure high-quality marine infrastructure that meets current marine infrastructure design standards and community expectations.
Project features
The Whyte Island boat ramp upgrade has undergone detailed planning and design to ensure the facility meets the needs of the boating community and is suited to the site and local conditions.
Scope of works:
- Reconstruction of the existing boat ramp to bring it up to current marine infrastructure design standards.
- Replacement of the existing floating walkway.
- Installation of new piles to support the upgraded floating structure.
The works will be delivered by Australian Marine and Civil Pty Ltd, an experienced South East Queensland marine contractor.
These improvements will enhance safety, functionality and usability for boaties using the Whyte Island facility.
Timing of works – effective July 2026
- July 2026: Contractor to establish onsite and commence construction.
- October 2026: Works expected to be completed, weather and site conditions permitting (approximately 12 weeks).
Access during construction
For public safety and to allow construction to proceed efficiently, the Whyte Island boat ramp will be fully closed for the duration of works.
Alternative boating access is available at:
- Glenora Street boat ramp, Wynnum, approximately 8 km south of Whyte Island.
- Manly boat harbour north and south ramps, approximately 11km south of Whyte Island.
- Colmslie boat ramp, approximately 13km south-west of Whyte Island.
- Aquarium Avenue boat ramp, Hemmant, approximately 7.6km south-west of Whyte Island (council owned facility).
Boaties are encouraged to plan ahead and follow all onsite signage while works are underway.
