Port Douglas Boat Harbour entrance channel maintenance dredging
Project overview
Maritime Safety Queensland is undertaking routine maintenance dredging at the Port Douglas Boat Harbour entrance channel.
This works will restore navigational depths to maintain safe access for harbour users.
All works are undertaken in accordance with relevant environmental approvals and regulatory requirements.
Project features
These works support Maritime Safety Queensland’s role in keeping Queensland’s waterways clean and safe by helping to maintain safe access for commercial and recreational vessels at Port Douglas.
The works will be delivered using a cutter suction dredge and temporary pipeline system.
Around 45,000 cubic metres of sediment will be removed from the entrance channel and transported to the Killaloe Dredged Material Management Facility.
To protect nearby environmental values, a water quality monitoring campaign will be undertaken during the project.
Next steps
Timing of works – effective July 2026:
- Dredging operations are scheduled to begin from July 2026.
- Works are expected to be completed by October 2026, subject to weather and conditions.
