Inkerman Creek Floating Walkway upgrades

We’re upgrading the Inkerman Creek (Port Alma Road) with a floating walkway to make it safer, more accessible, and easier to use. The new walkway will provide a stable platform, making it easier to launch and retrieve vessels, even in strong tidal conditions.

The boat ramp was relocated from the Port Alma Shipping Terminal and completed in mid-2023. It now provides locals and visitors with important access to Inkerman Creek and offshore destinations.

Maritime Safety Queensland sought community feedback on the proposed design for the floating walkway to help inform the final design and ensure it meets user needs and safety priorities. Following community consultation and finalisation of the design, the project will now move into construction.

Construction update – 10 October 2026 to early 2027

The Inkerman Creek Floating Walkway (Port Alma Road) project is progressing to construction. The information below outlines construction timing, expected impacts and alternative boating access arrangements during the works. We thank the community for their patience and understanding as these important safety and accessibility improvements are delivered.

Construction timing

  • Start: 10 October 2026
  • Completed by: early 2027
  • Work hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Construction impacts

Temporary closure of the Inkerman Creek boat ramp facility (including the parking area) for the duration of construction.

Alternative boating access – Casuarina boat ramp

  • Alternative boat ramp: Casuarina boat ramp facility
  • Location: Port Alma Road, approximately 4.2 kilometres before the Inkerman Creek boat ramp facility.

Why this project matters

The Inkerman Creek Boat Ramp (Port Alma Road) provides access to Inkerman Creek and offshore destinations for boaters travelling from surrounding regions.

Project features:

  • Floating Walkway with a concrete deck, 50-metres-long and 2.5-metres-wide
  • Solar-powered light pole for improved visibility at night and in low light
  • New cleats and fixtures to support vessel tie-up.

Community benefits:

  • Improve safety: Reduces the need to enter the water when launching and retrieving vessels
  • Better tidal access: Supports safer and easier launching and retrieval when tidal currents are strong
  • Improved visibility: Solar lighting provides clearer access during low-light conditions.

Community consultation completed – March 2026

Community consultation for the Inkerman Creek Floating Walkway (Port Alma Road) project was held from mid-February to mid-March 2026. During this time, community members were invited to review the proposed design and share feedback to help inform the project.
