Walkers Point boat ramp upgrade

Maritime Safety Queensland is upgrading the Walkers Point boat ramp to provide better marine facilities for the local community and visiting boaties.

The project will support the Walkers Point community and local businesses, improve access and safety, and encourage tourism and recreational boating in the area.

Project features

The upgrades have been carefully planned and designed to suit the site’s unique conditions. These include:

  • a complete rebuild of the existing two‑lane boat ramp
  • installation of a new upstream floating walkway to improve safety and efficiency for launching and retrieving vessels
  • construction of a new downstream rock groyne to provide sheltered conditions and improve safety for recreational watercraft users
  • a new access turnaround area to support smoother vehicle and trailer movements.

These upgrades will significantly improve access, safety and usability for boaties.

Timing of works (effective late March 2026)

  • Late March 2026: Contractor arrives to begin site setup and construction
  • 20 April 2026: Boat ramp completely closed to allow for safe construction
  • August 2026: Works expected to be completed, weather and site conditions permitting

Access during construction

The boat ramp will be closed from Monday 20 April until the work is finished. This is to keep people safe and allow the work to be completed efficiently. Alternative launching facilities are available at Woodgate Beach.

Boaties are advised to use extra caution around the worksite, both on the land side and in‑water.
