Maritime Employment Grant Program

The Maritime Employment Grant Program provides funding to support new employment opportunities, including traineeships, in the marine sector. 

What the grant covers

  • The Maritime Employment Grant Program offers up to $50,000 or 50% of the total employment costs for a new position (whichever is the lesser) per year for 2 years.
  • Multiple grants can be awarded to eligible employers in the maritime industry.
  • Grants will be awarded on the basis of merit through a competitive application and selection process.

Applications are now closed. 

Successful applicants

Applications were assessed and recommended by an assessment panel. Eleven new employees from 2 registered companies totalling up to $1,100,000 (ex GST) have been approved. All recommended applications nominated on-water maritime jobs with qualification levels enabling the recipients to work on international trade vessels.

The approved grants are:

  • 1 grant: Ship Master
  • 1 grant: Chief Officer
  • 1 grant: Chief Engineer
  • 1 grant: Second Engineer
  • 2 grants: Trainee Marine Engineers
  • 2 grants: General Purpose Hands / Trainee Ratings
  • 3 grants: General Purpose Hands / Integrated Ratings.

Applicants deemed suitable will shortly receive a Letter of Offer from Maritime Safety Queensland.
