Tides
Maritime Safety Queensland, along with Queensland port authorities and the Department of Environment and Science, jointly operate the tide gauge network around the Queensland coast. The network records the movement of the tide and storm surge events. Maritime Safety Queensland coordinates the validation and archiving of tidal (sea level) readings from all Queensland ports, which are used as the basis of the official tide predictions for standard and secondary ports in Queensland. The official tide predictions are used for port operations in all Queensland ports and are published as times and heights of high and low waters in the Queensland Tide Tables. The tidal planes and mean sea levels are also based on these tidal readings.
