Safe on-water conduct on the Brisbane River

Many different types of vessels use the Brisbane River, including boats, canoes and ferries. With all these different users, safety on the river is a high priority.

The Brisbane River Code of Conduct has been developed by Maritime Safety Queensland, Rowing Queensland, Transdev Brisbane Ferries and the Brisbane City Council to help ensure everyone can use the river safely. It is written for all commercial and recreational users of the Brisbane River and provides guidance on:

  • general rules of the river
  • interacting with other vessels
  • adapting to environmental factors
  • participant safety
  • incident reporting.

Remember, if there is a marine emergency on the water, contact the Queensland Water Police or your local volunteer marine rescue agency.
