About the grants
Applications for round 2 have been extended and now close at 5pm Friday 23 February 2024.
The Coastal Shipping Grant Program will support businesses to:
- establish or enhance a coastal shipping service along the Queensland coastline
- strengthen existing shipping operations within Queensland.
This Coastal Shipping Grant Program—Round 2 intends to deliver:
- reinvigoration of sustainable coastal shipping services along Queensland's coastline
- new Regulated Australian Vessel (RAV) shipping operations for increased flexibility and improved reliable access to marine logistic services
- increased employment for a local maritime workforce to address current skill shortages
- opportunities for Queensland seafarers to train, upskill and obtain valuable sea time.

Who can apply
We are looking for capable and knowledgeable commercial entities in the maritime industry that meet the eligibility criteria. You will need to demonstrate how your proposal will help create new, viable and sustainable local maritime jobs.
Applicants from the initial round of the Coastal Shipping Grant Program may reapply, however services must be new RAV services.
How to apply
Capable and knowledgeable commercial entities in the maritime industry that meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply using the Coastal Shipping Grant Program—Round 2 application form. Eligibility criteria, instructions on how to apply and further information can be found in the Coastal Shipping Grant Program—Round 2 guidelines.
It is important to complete and accurate applications are submitted. No extensions or requests for further information will be made. Incomplete applications will be deemed non-conforming. No correspondence will be entered into and applicants will not be provided with notification of missing information.
Maritime Safety Queensland will be presenting a virtual industry briefing in mid-December 2023. Interested parties and potential applicants can lodge an expression of interest to participate in the presentation by emailing bqmj@msq.qld.gov.au. A meeting link will be emailed to you.

Round 1 Successful applicants
Two companies, Tn Marine Pty Ltd (Cairns) and ASP Ship Management Pty Ltd (Gladstone), were awarded grants by Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) following a rigorous assessment of applications received under the Coastal Shipping Grants Program.
Tn Marine Pty Ltd, trading as North Marine, will use the grant to create a new barge service from Cairns which will provide general cargo and fuel to island communities and resorts in Far North Queensland. The service will provide new employment for six people.
ASP Ship Management Pty Ltd originally received partial funding from the Maritime Employment Grant Program for six new positions in its cruise ship bunkering service, in the port of Brisbane.
