Broadwater Masterplan

image of the Gold Coast BroadwaterThe Broadwater is considered one of Queensland's iconic assets contributing strongly to the city image of the Gold Coast. It is a protected and safe passage of water that is very popular with Gold Coast residents and visitors, providing substantial water-based commercial and leisure opportunities.

The Gold Coast City Council and the Queensland Government have jointly committed $1.5 million in funding towards the development of a masterplan for the Broadwater. The masterplan’s project initiation plan outlines the need for a definitive guide for long term waterway and land use management, considering community, environmental and economic values of the area.

The Gold Coast Waterways Steering Committee (WSC) will provide advice to and coordine the masterplan project. A draft masterplan will be prepared by September 2012 for public consultation. The final Broadwater Masterplan will be presented for Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council consideration in 2013.

Broadwater Community Reference Group

A community reference group has been formed to consider the varying community interests around the use and development of the Broadwater. The Broadwater Community Reference Group Terms of Reference establishes a forum for community engagement and information gathering to inform the development of the masterplan for the Broadwater. To make sure the wider community is involved, the minutes from meetings will be available and any comments will be referred to the next meeting for consideration.
