Uniform Shipping Laws (USL) Code 2008

To ensure finished parts of the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) apply around Australia this year, they are being implemented in amendments to the Uniform Shipping Laws (USL) Code through amendment lists five and six. Amendment lists five and six took effect on 1 October 2008.

By replacing sections of the Uniform Shipping Laws Code with completed sections of the National Standard for Commercial Vessels, a hybrid code was created which allows the completed National Standard for Commercial Vessels sections to apply nationally immediately.

This hybrid code (or the Uniform Shipping Laws Code 2008) applies to new construction, initial survey, and upgrades to existing vessels unless otherwise stated.

Vessels for which an application for design approval was submitted to Maritime Safety Queensland prior to 1 October 2008 may comply with the pre-2008 Uniform Shipping Laws Code provided construction of the vessel begins within a three year period. Contact your local Maritime Safety Queensland regional office for more information.

Note:

  • The files below for the Uniform Shipping Laws Code 2008 sections contain consolidated versions of the standards, incorporating all amendments to the Uniform Shipping Laws Code contained in amendment lists one to six.
