Transferring registration
Where ownership of a registered commercial or fishing ship is changing, commercial/fishing ship registration transfer application form (PDF, 98 KB) must be completed by both the buyer and seller and lodged with a Maritime Safety Queensland regional office within 14 days.
Until Maritime Safety Queensland receives notice of the transfer of a ship's registration, the person in whose name the ship is registered is taken to be the owner of the ship.
Persons considering the purchase of a ship should seek a current Certificate of Survey as a condition of sale. This would disclose whether there had been any unauthorised building/alterations that may affect further registration or survey of the ship in their name.
Where a ship is to be registered interstate, having possession of a current Certificate of Survey prior to applying for registration in that other state will minimise any difficulties that may arise.
