  • Safety Management System (recommended retail price A$23.75)Purchase Maritime Safety Queensland publications online

Safety Management System publicationA safety management system is a collection of all a commercial or fishing ship's documents about safe operating policies, procedures and risk management practices being used on the ship.

The safety management system example documents are available in either printed format or on a CD.

    Printed materials
    • Safety Management System in a folder for ships 8 metres or less
    • Safety Management System in a folder for ships greater than 8 metres

These printed versions contain examples of all the documents for ships in particular length categories. You should remove or cross out the documents that do not apply to your ship. To modify the examples to suit a particular ship, delete or replace the details in the relevant example documents.

    CD
    • A folder containing a CD and section dividers. The CD is used to create a safety management system for ships of any length.

The CD will automatically open to a page that gives an explanation on how to use it. You then enter details for a specific ship and answer some brief operational questions about the ship. From this, example documents that are needed for that particular ship are saved to the computer. You will then need to modify these documents with details for that ship.

The modified documents can then be printed and put in the folder provided to form a safety management system for that ship.

Download the reference material to assist you with compiling a safety management system.
