Seasonal speed limits – Noosa River

Visitors to Noosa’s idyllic waterways should remember that a seasonal speed limit comes into force in sections of the Noosa River system from December.

From Thursday 1 December 2011 to Tuesday 31 January 2012, a speed limit of six knots applies from the river’s mouth to a point at the T Boats jetty on the main river channel and part of Noosa Sound.

Boating on the Noosa River becomes even busier than usual during the end-of-year holidays with a seasonal influx of visitors to the area.

Officers from Maritime Safety Queensland, Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol and Water Police will be conducting enforcement patrols to ensure that boat users on the Noosa River do not put themselves or their passengers at risk this holiday season.

Boaties should remember their obligation to carry the required safety equipment.

This includes appropriate lifejackets in the river and on open waters.

Wear a life jacket whenever there is a heightened risk such as operating in busy boat lanes, bad weather or at night.

With the increase in boating traffic it is important that skippers keep a proper look out at all times.

As soon as boaties leave the Noosa River they’re in open water where they must carry flares and a v-sheet, as well as an EPIRB when more than two nautical miles from land.
